Understand productive, active, and idle time
How WorkforcePilot separates computer input, classification, and quiet time in reports.
For AdminsFor Managers
The short answer
Active time reflects keyboard or mouse input. Productive time is active time in tools classified as productive. Idle or quiet time is reported separately and is not automatically evidence of poor performance.
01
What each number means
- Active time: observed computer input during a reporting interval.
- Productive time: active time in an app or site covered by a productive classification.
- Neutral time: active time in a tool that should not raise or lower the productivity interpretation.
- Needs classification: active time without a confident organization rule yet.
- Idle or quiet time: the device was available but input was not observed; meetings, calls, patient care, and breaks can all cause it.

Use the numbers fairly
Compare a person with their own role and normal pattern, not with a different job. A biller, clinical assistant, and manager use computers differently.
Review the selected date range, coverage, device identity, classifications, and surrounding activity before beginning a coaching conversation.
